In the next few pages you can investigate the principles of Brithai, why and how it's used and importantly, where you can learn.

Paul Griffin is perhaps better known as the head of the British National Martial Arts Association and Combat Sports World Wide. He is a Martial Artist of International standing having practiced in Countries as far apart as America, Germany and Japan. He holds Dan grades in Wado Ryu, Shotokan, a 6th dan in Bujitsu and was awarded the title of Master by The Chinese National Skills of Martial Arts, committee. Paul has also worked with a variety well known names including Dave Lee, (stuntman for Batman, and Sylvester Stallones bodyguard), Brian Woodward,  (European Judo Champion), Lennox Lewis, Dolph Lundgren and Silvio Simac world Tae Kwon Do champion.

Brithai started  it's evolution after Paul had been training in a variety of martial arts. Each style claimed to be the best.

If you are in a life threatening situation you need to be able to incorporate any strategy or technique appropriate to the situation. You do not want to be bound by a syllabus. Like wise in your training, if a particular technique suits you mentally and physically are you to disregard that technique just because it's not in the approved range of techniques ?

This is where Brithai comes in. It can be learned as an art in it's own right or as a complimentary art to your existing art. As you change, so your art must change. As you get older rapid punching and kicking becomes less of an option. Grappling takedowns and groundwork may become more appropriate to the situation.

The syllabus should be there for each of us to work through and develop ourselves with. Once you have worked through the syllabus it's "guiding" role no longer exists, you should not be constrained by it.
